2Baba: Afrobeats is here to stay thanks to new generation of talent

Nigerian music icon Innocent “2Face” Idibia is brushing off claims that Afrobeats might soon lose its spark on the global stage.

During a recent sit-down on Wazobia FM, the ‘African Queen’ star made it clear that he has zero worries about the genre’s longevity.

He believes the secret weapon for Afrobeats’ survival is the massive wave of young talent constantly emerging from Nigeria.

To him, these fresh voices aren’t just a trend; they are the literal lifeblood keeping the sound alive and evolving.

The legend isn’t just watching from the sidelines; he’s actively listening and finds the current evolution of the sound incredibly promising.

He pointed out that the unique “flows” and distinct styles of today’s artists prove the genre is in very capable hands.

One particular standout for him was a recent tribute by a rising artist named Fola, who put a fresh spin on the classic hit “If Love Is A Crime.”

2Face praised the remake, admitting he was genuinely impressed by the smooth vocals and modern touch.

Reflecting on the shift in the industry, he noted that the creativity coming from this new crop of musicians is exactly why the music will never die. Their ability to blend nostalgia with new-school energy ensures the global audience stays hooked.
