Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Monday openly took full responsibility for the ongoing issue of cattle roaming the streets of the capital city.
The minister expressed his regret over the situation during his monthly media chat in Abuja, acknowledging that the problem persists despite current urban management efforts.
Addressing the issue directly, Wike stated, “I apologize that up till now there are cows still roaming the streets of Abuja, I take responsibility.”
Beyond managing the city’s streets, Wike emphasized that the infrastructural improvements driven by the FCT Administration are widely spread across the entire territory.
Detailing the scope of these developments, he explained, “This projects are not only concentrated in the city centres but also in the satellite town. From roads to water, to residences of public officers.”
The minister further noted that the selection of these infrastructural developments is a collaborative process heavily guided by the local communities themselves.
Highlighting this community-driven approach, Wike said, “We don’t just stand and say let’s do these roads, the people appoint and nominate the road that they want to be of use to them and it helps in terms of reducing security and having access to their farm lands.”
Looking ahead, the minister reiterated that he would soon be commissioning these impactful projects alongside the President to mark his third year in office.
