Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has declared that the Federal Government will step up measures to combat hunger and child malnutrition by creating community food banks and expanding relief outreaches under the Renewed Hope Initiative, RHI.
Speaking on Tuesday in Akure, Ondo State, during a food distribution exercise for vulnerable populations, Mrs. Tinubu emphasized that the program aims to give every child a chance to grow, stay healthy, and flourish.
Delivering the address on her behalf, Hajia Nana Shettima, wife of the Vice President, explained that the outreach aligns directly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s national agenda by helping citizens overcome economic hardships.
Highlighting the core mission of the distribution scheme since its inception in March 2024, Mrs. Tinubu reaffirmed her pledge to vulnerable groups and persons with disabilities, stating: “No Nigerian Should go hungry, that is our mandate and part of our vision for Renewed Hope Initiative.”
She revealed that the monthly distribution program relies on two dedicated donors who supply two full trucks of food supplies each month, allowing two states to benefit during every cycle.
In his welcome address, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa praised the intervention as a clear sign of the Federal Government’s resolve to ease hardship and support those in need.
Aiyedatiwa described the distribution exercise as more than just a donation, calling it a celebration of social solidarity and compassion aimed at uplifting the less privileged.
The governor commended the First Lady’s initiative for pinpointing critical community needs, noting that access to food protects human dignity, helps children focus in school, and strengthens the overall workforce.
Turning to national politics, Aiyedatiwa pledged Ondo State’s full support for the President, stating: “We have already declared Ondo State for Tinubu 2027 and we remain unwavering in our resolve to deliver en masse in the Sunshine State for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second term.”
He assured the populace that social investment initiatives of this nature will continue to build resilient communities while safeguarding the dignity of every citizen.
In his closing remarks to the beneficiaries, the governor urged them to view the food drive as part of a sustained broader effort by the government to improve living standards across the state.
