Mr Real raises alarm over alleged ‘money sprayers’ at Nigerian parties

Afrobeats singer Mr Real has raised concerns over allegations that some Nigerians are hiring people to spray money at parties to pressure guests into spraying cash.

The singer made the allegation in a video shared on his Instagram page, warning Nigerians against believing everything they see on social media or at social events.

According to Mr Real, the alleged practice involves hosts hiring individuals known as “money sprayers” to spray cash at events, creating the impression of extravagant spending and encouraging other guests to do the same.

He explained that the amount of money sprayed by the hired individuals depends on their agreement with the host, adding that the arrangement could also involve foreign currencies.

“Some Nigerians now rent people to spray money at their parties. What sort of business is that? Let me break it down for you. It is crazy. Don’t believe everything you see on social media or at events,” he said.

Recounting how he learnt about the alleged practice, Mr Real said he witnessed a disturbance at a hotel where he lodged during a recent visit to Abuja.

He explained that he went to investigate the incident and encountered someone he knew, who later disclosed that the individuals involved in the altercation were allegedly “money sprayers”.

Mr Real claimed that after an event, the hired individuals recover the money they sprayed from the host and receive between 10 and 15 per cent of the money sprayed by other guests, depending on their agreement.

He further alleged that the arrangement was behind a disagreement at the Abuja hotel after the host reportedly discovered counterfeit $800 among the money sprayed at the event.

According to the singer, the host accused the hired individuals of spraying the counterfeit currency, but they denied the allegation and suggested that it could have come from the celebrant’s friends.

Expressing shock over the alleged practice, Mr Real warned that guests could feel pressured to spend money at parties without realising that some of the extravagant displays they witness may have been staged.

He added that, according to the information given to him, the alleged practice was also prevalent in parts of Lagos, particularly Lekki.

However, the claims remain allegations attributed to the singer and have not been independently verified.
