Afrobeats singer, Mr Real, has criticised First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu’s recent advice encouraging Nigerians to embrace petty trading as a way to cope with the country’s economic hardship.
The First Lady had sparked widespread reactions after suggesting that businesses such as selling akara, kulikuli and roasted corn require little capital and could help Nigerians earn a living amid the current economic challenges.
Reacting in a post on his Instagram page, the “Legbegbe” crooner described the advice as insensitive, expressing frustration over the economic situation.
In a controversial remark, Mr Real said he would rather join banditry than engage in petty trading, adding that his targets would be politicians.
He further claimed that if apprehended, he believed the government would rehabilitate him through its amnesty programmes.
“I go rather join bandit than to sell kulikuli and akara. And my target will be only politicians.
At least if I am caught, they will rehabilitate me,” he wrote.
His comments have generated discussions on social media, with many users debating both the First Lady’s remarks and the singer’s controversial response.
The Federal Government has, in the past, implemented rehabilitation and reintegration initiatives for some repentant armed groups, though Mr Real’s statement appears to have been made as a criticism of government policies rather than a declaration of intent.
