Popular Nigerian gospel musician, Yinka Alaseyori, has publicly apologized to Nigerians following intense backlash over her recent remarks regarding the abducted school children and teachers in Oyo State.
The controversy stems from a May 15, 2026, attack where bandits invaded Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele in the Oriire Local Government Area, kidnapping seven teachers and several students.
Panic escalated nationwide after the gunmen released a terrifying viral video showing the beheading of one of the abducted teachers, sparking widespread outrage over school insecurity.
In response to the government’s failure to rescue the victims, the Labour Union, grieving parents, and frustrated citizens have launched massive protests across the country.
Reacting to the crisis in a video on Monday, Alaseyori stated that the government was actively working on the release and urged Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu and security agencies with prayers.
However, her comments drew heavy criticism from social media users and celebrities who slammed her for being unrealistic, arguing that systemic insecurity requires decisive political action rather than religious appeals.
In a bid to address the public anger, the singer released a new video on Wednesday to tender a heartfelt apology and clarify that her lengthy prayer session had been taken out of context.
Alaseyori said, “Good day everyone, I did a video of about 1 and half hour two days ago, praying for the kidnapped children, grieving families, government parastatal, the military, Nigeria land, and everybody in pain. But when I woke up yesterday I discovered that some well meaning Nigerians are feeling offended because I made them feel unseen or their voices unheard. You know me too well that I will never make anybody feel like that. I discovered that the trending video was cut out of the video I made. Mothers, please don’t be angry with me. I begged you in the name of Jesus Christ, you will never bury your children. I beg you in God’s name, please forgive me if I ever speak as if I’m insensitive.”
