Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL side, Rivers United team bus was involved in a road accident on Thursday along the Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road while traveling to Awka, Anambra State, for their upcoming President Federation Cup Round of 16 clash against Nasarawa United.
Club officials confirmed that while several players and staff members sustained minor injuries, thankfully no fatalities or life-threatening conditions were reported.
Those affected received immediate medical attention and are currently in stable condition.
Despite the frightening ordeal, the “Pride of Rivers” still plan to honor their fixture.
The team remains scheduled to face Nasarawa United in the Round of 16 of the President Federation Cup at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Saturday.
The accident has sparked widespread concern among football fans and Nigerian sports stakeholders.
However, the community has since expressed immense relief that no serious casualties were recorded, while flooding social media with wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured delegation.
