Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, spoke on Monday about his new security outfit. He is currently awaiting Federal Government approval to launch the “Iru Ekun Security Network” to clear criminals from South-West forests.
Igboho released a statement in Ibadan confirming that all required paperwork has already been submitted to the authorities.
He stated, “We have submitted all the required documents for our registered security firm, ‘Iru Ekun Security Network’, and are only waiting for the Federal Government’s approval, which will be granted soon.”
The activist emphasized his willingness to partner with conventional state forces to secure the region. He stated, “We are absolutely ready to collaborate with the Police, Department of State Service, Nigeria Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other relevant stakeholders in the security sector to flush out terrorists, kidnappers, bandits, and other hoodlums, who are threatening the peace and safety of our people, most especially in the rural communities.”
Igboho also praised President Bola Tinubu for his ongoing efforts to restructure Nigeria’s security framework. He noted, “It is obvious that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is resolutely committed to tackling criminalities not only in the South-West but also in all other regions plagued by insecurity.”
Furthermore, he expressed full readiness to comply with Oyo State’s new regulatory laws for private security firms. He said, “Besides, I want to state that we are also ready to comply with the new Executive Order issued by Governor Seyi Makinde to regulate the activities of private security concerns. We are ready to support and cooperate with measures aimed at strengthening the security and peace in Oyo and other states in Yorubaland.”
According to reports, Governor Seyi Makinde signed Executive Order 001 of 2026 into law on Wednesday, May 20. The governor introduced this policy to address rising security challenges and coordinate the high number of local vigilante groups.
The state government aims to ensure all community-based security groups operate under a strict legal framework. This measure is expected to properly maintain peace, order, and the rule of law across Oyo State.
Finally, Igboho stressed that local safety is directly tied to food security and economic survival. He concluded, “Without peace and security, healthy socioeconomic developments cannot thrive, most especially in the rural communities which remain the hub of agricultural production critical to the nation’s food security and means of livelihood for farmers.”
