"I would have jumped", Davido recalls first fame scandal

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has opened up about one of the most difficult moments of his early career, revealing that a privacy breach shortly after he became famous left him overwhelmed and struggling with suicidal thoughts.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Vibe Podcast, Davido recounted how, about two months after breaking into the spotlight, a woman he had invited to his hotel room secretly took a photo of him while he was asleep and posted it on social media.

The singer said the incident quickly attracted widespread attention, prompting frantic calls from his father, sisters, and manager.

“I was young and didn’t know how to handle fame. If I saw a balcony that day, I would have jumped,” Davido said, reflecting on how deeply the incident affected him at the time.

He explained that he was inexperienced in dealing with celebrity life and had not yet learned to set personal boundaries.

Davido said the experience became a turning point, teaching him the importance of protecting his privacy, managing his public image, and establishing clear boundaries as a public figure.

If you or someone you know is experiencing thoughts of suicide or is in immediate danger, seek help from trusted family members, friends, or a qualified mental health professional or emergency services in your area.
