Nigerian singer and former member of the defunct P-Square duo, Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has appealed to fans to stop comparing him with his twin brother and former bandmate, Paul Okoye (Rudeboy), or any other musician.
Speaking in a recent video broadcast, Mr P said he is determined to concentrate on his solo career and does not want unnecessary distractions.
He stressed that he has his own unique identity and wants to be appreciated for his individual efforts.
“Stop comparing me with my brother or anyone else. Enough of the comparisons. I want to do me. There is no one like me.
I want to do my thing and chop my money,” he said.
The singer also reflected on the impact of P-Square’s brief reunion on his solo career.
In a recent interview with Cool FM Lagos, Mr P claimed that the reunion slowed down the momentum he had built as a solo artiste.
According to him, before reuniting with Rudeboy, he was experiencing significant growth on social media, gaining about 100,000 Instagram followers daily. However, he said that progress declined after the reunion.
“Before the reunion, I used to gain 100,000 followers every day.
After Davido, it was Don Jazzy and me who were the biggest African celebrities on social media.
But after the reunion, everything just dropped,” he stated.
Mr P further maintained that his longevity and continued relevance in the entertainment industry deserve greater recognition. He noted that he has remained active and influential in the music scene for nearly three decades.
“I have been in the game for nearly 30 years, and I am still trending to date. I deserve more respect,” he added.
The comments come amid continued public interest in the relationship between the Okoye brothers, whose music careers have often been compared by fans since the split of the iconic P-Square group.
