Senator Saliu Mustapha has officially secured the Peoples Democratic Party ticket for the Kwara Central Senatorial District ahead of the general elections.
This major political move comes just hours after the lawmaker formally announced his departure from the ruling All Progressives Congress.
A video circulating on social media showed Kwara State PDP Chairman Issa Bawa handing over the party ticket to Mustapha.
Mustapha, who holds the traditional title of Turaki of Ilorin Emirate, explained that internal disputes within his former party forced his exit.
In a formal letter, the lawmaker disclosed that his decision came after extensive consultations with key stakeholders, supporters, and local constituents.

Explaining his departure, Mustapha stated, “Where the path of a political platform no longer sufficiently aligns with these convictions and the aspirations of the people one represents, the honourable thing to do is to chart a new course”.
The senator thanked President Bola Tinubu and the ruling party leadership for the relationships and experiences he gained while serving in the APC.
Reassuring voters, Mustapha declared, “To my constituents, supporters, political associates and stakeholders in Kwara State and beyond, I assure you that while my political platform may change, my principles, my purpose and my commitment to the people remain unchanged”.
His sudden party switch follows months of internal friction after losing out in the primary race and seeking new options to remain in office.
