All Progressives Congress, APC governors have formally distanced themselves from any political alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections, reaffirming their total commitment to the ruling party’s structure.
Chairman of the APC Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, delivered the decision in Abuja following a late-night meeting on Monday.
The declaration follows recent political moves by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, a PDP leader serving in the APC administration, who has been championing a “Rainbow Coalition” in support of President Bola Tinubu.
Wike recently accused Uzodimma and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of plotting against him over his expanding cross-party alliance.
In a direct rebuttal to Wike’s political maneuvering, the APC governors declared they will not tolerate arrangements that foster divided loyalties or competing interests.
Uzodimma emphasized that the forum’s sole focus remains backing official APC flagbearers rather than promoting external interests or non-party movements.
“The APC Governors Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr President, weakening the APC or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels,” he stated.
He added, “In other words, the forum has no intention to support any candidate at any level that is not an APC candidate because our candidates who are contesting the election are being sponsored by our party.”
Concluding the briefing, Uzodimma stressed that the entire campaign strategy will align strictly with party objectives, stating, “The governors’ campaign commitment is exclusively to all APC candidates. All levels of the party campaign architecture will align with the expectations of Mr President and the strategic objectives of the party.”
