Nnorom Amarachi scored twice as Kwara United Queens cruised to a 5-1 victory over Champions Rise in a friendly encounter at the Nationwide Field, George Innih Stadium, Ilorin, on Friday.
The Courageous Queens dominated proceedings despite a slow start, creating several opportunities before eventually breaking the deadlock in the 35th minute.
Modupe Owoosho came close to opening the scoring earlier, but her effort was denied by the Champions Rise goalkeeper. Mariam Shittu also squandered a good opportunity, while Godwin Jubilee saw her effort hit the base of the crossbar before bouncing back into play.
Kwara United Queens continued to press for the breakthrough and were rewarded in the 35th minute when Amarachi reacted quickest to a rebound to put the home side ahead.
Amarachi completed her brace shortly before half-time, converting from the penalty spot in the 44th minute to give Kwara United Queens a 2-0 advantage at the break.
The hosts resumed the second half with renewed intensity and extended their lead in the 48th minute when Shittu pounced on a loose ball following a goalmouth scramble to make it 3-0.
Owoosho then added a fourth goal in the 54th minute as the Courageous Queens continued to dictate the game.
Champions Rise suffered further setback in the 71st minute when their goalkeeper inadvertently turned the ball into her own net from a resulting corner delivered by Oyedeji Jomiloju.
Champions Rise eventually pulled one back in the 78th minute through an own goal by Ojo Bunkunmi, but it proved only a consolation as Kwara United Queens completed a convincing 5-1 victory.
The friendly formed part of Kwara United Queens’ preparations as the club continues to build momentum through competitive and developmental engagements.
