NLC declares indefinite strike in Delta over civil servant’s death

The Delta State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC has declared an indefinite strike across the state following the death of a deputy director in the Ministry of Secondary Education, Mr Unity Adedah.

The State NLC Chairman, Goodluck Oforbruku, announced the strike on Friday while addressing protesting civil servants at the Chike Edozien Secretariat in Asaba.

Ribsmedia reports that workers at the state secretariat had earlier shut down the complex following the death of Adedah.

The deceased civil servant was reportedly tied up and allegedly beaten by thugs said to have acted on the orders of the Commissioner for Secondary Education in Delta State, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and the reported involvement of the commissioner remain subject to investigation.

The NLC’s decision to embark on an indefinite strike is expected to affect government activities across Delta State as workers demand accountability over the circumstances surrounding the civil servant’s death.
