The Federal Government, through the Rural Electrification Agency, REA, on Thursday commissioned a 581-kilowatt-peak kWp, interconnected solar mini-grid project in Oke-Oyi Community, Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The project was delivered under the Rural Electrification Fund–Interconnected Mini-Grid Acceleration Scheme as part of efforts to expand access to reliable electricity in underserved communities.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Minister of Power, Chief Joseph Tegbe, said the project demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding electricity access and ensuring that investments in the energy sector translate into improved livelihoods and economic opportunities.
According to the minister, the project has a total installed capacity of 581kWp and comprises 1,336 solar panels and 84 batteries.
He added that the project also includes approximately 10 kilometres of distribution cables and transformers to support the electricity distribution network.
The commissioning marks another step in the Federal Government’s efforts to deploy renewable energy solutions and improve electricity supply to communities across the country.
