Abia State Governor Alex Otti has reaffirmed his support for a statement he published in 2020 regarding former Anambra Governor Peter Obi’s management of $155 million.
Speaking in a televised interview on Arise Television, Otti clarified that his original account was documented on June 8, 2020.
The governor emphasized that his publication was aimed at proving that public officials can still demonstrate financial prudence while in office.
“They are referring to what I wrote in 2020,” Otti said as he recalled the timing of the piece.
“I think that was June 8, 2020,” he noted, adding, “I was using it to prove that it’s still possible for people to be prudent in government.”
“It’s an account of what happened,” Otti explained as he reflected on his role as CEO of Diamond Bank at the time.
“And I had said that as the CEO of the bank at that time, he was going to leave the money in naira, and when he came to me and I said no, this naira you want to keep, naira will keep losing value,” he revealed.
“So you probably want to convert it to dollars, and it was converted,” Otti concluded, describing the event as a factual transaction from six years prior that he sees no need to alter.
