The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC has issued a stern warning to Nigerians regarding the illegal distribution of a suspected counterfeit toothpaste brand, ORACIRE+.
According to the regulatory body, the fake product is being deceptively packaged to closely mimic the registered and approved ORACARE+ Toothpaste.
The public health alert followed a formal complaint and intelligence reports confirming the widespread distribution of the fake product in consumer markets.
Surveillance operations conducted at Ojuwoye Market in Mushin, Lagos, revealed that the packaging and overall presentation of ORACIRE+ are nearly identical to the genuine brand, leaving buyers at risk of deception.
NAFDAC warned that unverified personal care products pose severe health risks, as their origin, chemical composition, and manufacturing conditions remain entirely unknown and uncertified.
In response, the agency has deployed zonal directors and state coordinators across the country to track down distributors, seize stocks, and initiate regulatory action against offenders.
Furthermore, NAFDAC urged consumers, healthcare professionals, and vendors to stay vigilant and report any suspected sales of the counterfeit product to the nearest agency office immediately.
