Jide Kosoko opens up on 30-year battle with diabetes

Veteran Nigerian actor Jide Kosoko has revealed that he has been living with diabetes for 30 years, saying he has remained intentional about managing his health because he does not want to die.

Kosoko made the disclosure during an interview on the Africa A-List podcast, where he spoke about his long-standing health condition and the importance of regular medical check-ups.

Addressing criticism over his attendance at social functions while one of his colleagues was reportedly ill, the actor said he also had health challenges but had continued to manage his condition.

“They said someone is sick and Jide Kosoko still went to parties. Why shouldn’t I attend a party?” he said.

The actor disclosed that he was diagnosed with diabetes in 1996 and had since taken deliberate steps to maintain his health.

“I’ve been diabetic since 1996 till date, and I’ve continued to maintain myself because I don’t want to die at all,” he said.

Kosoko also recounted a recent medical experience during which he underwent a colonoscopy as part of efforts to check for possible signs of cancer.

According to him, he was put to sleep during the procedure and experienced what he described as a frightening moment when he nearly died.

He urged his colleagues to prioritise their health, undergo regular medical examinations and take necessary steps to manage any underlying health conditions.
