Nollywood actress, Laide Bakare, has raised concerns over the safety of her children with her ex-husband, Mutairu Atanda Orilowo, alleging that the children are being maltreated while in his custody.
RIBS Media reports that Bakare married Orilowo, her second husband, in 2013 and the union produced two sons. She had earlier divorced her first husband, Olumide Kunfulire, in 2012.
In an emotional video shared on her Instagram page, the actress said she was compelled to speak publicly after becoming increasingly worried about the safety of her children.
She said, “Sometimes you don’t take your problems to social media or to the public. That’s what people say, but at a point when it gets scary and threatening, sometimes you never can tell if you can get help.”
In the caption accompanying the video, Bakare described the situation as a “difficult call” and appealed for intervention to ensure the safety of her children.
She wrote: “This is a difficult call. However, at this point every necessary step needs to be taken. And valuable intercession sought. All I want is my children’s safety.
“My baby father has refused the children to be with me. This is a sad reality for me because my boys are not with me.
“My worries are my kids being with another woman that is not treating them well. As God will have it, I was recently on the phone with my children and there was an argument in the house of the baby father with his wife and some of his children and mine.
“And I heard the wife telling one of the boys in the house to strangle my children’s necks instead of beating them where the scars would be seen by their father.”
Bakare further accused her former husband of withholding the children from her as a way of getting back at her.
She appealed to members of the public to assist her in seeking custody of her sons, claiming that she had recorded the voice of Orilowo’s wife during the alleged incident.
The actress’ allegations have sparked concern among her followers, although the claims remain allegations and have not been independently verified.
