Kogi State took a major step toward agricultural growth yesterday as Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and AFAN State Chairman, Alhaji Prince Raji Musa, officially launched the 2026 Wet Season Farming in Ibaji Local Government Area.
The landmark event, held at the Ibaji LGA Secretariat, brought together various farmers’ groups, traditional rulers, cooperative societies, and top government officials.
The Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Timothy Ojomah, was also on ground to witness the commencement of the vital farming season.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Ododo emphasized that agriculture remains central to his administration’s economic blueprint for the state.
He assured the people that the flag-off was a practical demonstration of the government’s resolve to support farmers with quality inputs, modern technology, and direct market access.
“We are determined to make Kogi the food basket of Nigeria. This administration will continue to invest in agriculture so that our farmers can produce more, earn more, and feed the nation,” the Governor stated.
In his remarks, Alhaji Prince Raji Musa commended Governor Ododo for consistently prioritizing the welfare of local farmers.
The AFAN Chairman noted that the association is fully aligned with government policies and will ensure massive mobilization of farmers to key into the wet season programme.
Hon. Ojomah described the initiative as highly timely, adding that the Ministry has already structured mechanisms to monitor input distribution and provide continuous technical support.
The high point of the event included the direct presentation of improved seeds, fertilizers, and farming tools to selected farmers, followed by a tour of demonstration plots.
Expressing immense optimism, the management and members of AFAN Kogi State concluded by wishing all farmers a highly successful, peaceful, and bountiful wet season.
