CAF cancels Edo Queens’ shootout win, orders extra time against Ampem Darkoa

The Confederation of African Football, CAF has cancelled Edo Queens’ penalty-shootout victory over Ampem Darkoa and ordered that extra time be played to determine the winner of the September 5 final.

The decision was contained in an official ruling dated September 26, 2026, issued by the CAF Organising Committee for Women’s Football following a protest lodged by Ampem Darkoa over the procedure used to determine the winner of the encounter.

According to CAF, the failure to play extra time resulted from an erroneous administrative instruction and was not attributable to either of the two participating clubs.

The governing body explained that match officials were initially informed that extra time would be played if the final ended in a draw after regulation time. However, the referee was subsequently instructed to proceed directly to a penalty shootout if the scores remained level.

Ampem Darkoa formally challenged the decision, arguing that the procedure contravened Articles 13.1 and 72.4 of the CAF Women’s Champions League Regulations.

Following its review, CAF ruled that the required extra time must now be played to determine the winner of the final.
