Breaking: End of the Road for Uber in Nigeria

Global ride-hailing giant Uber is officially packing up its operations after 12 years of driving through Nigerian cities.

The mobility company confirmed its upcoming departure in a statement released on Wednesday, setting its final day of service for September 2, 2026.

“We are writing to share some difficult news. After a thorough review of our business, we have made the tough decision to wind down our operations in Nigeria, effective 2 September 2026.”

Reflecting on its long journey, the brand expressed deep gratitude to the millions of riders who trusted its platform since its debut in Lagos back in 2014: “Since we first launched in Lagos in 2014, it has been an absolute privilege to be a part of your daily life connecting you with independent transportation providers.”

Acknowledging the immense role it played in daily urban travel, Uber thanked passengers for letting the platform power their everyday journeys: “Whether it was a morning commute, a ride to see loved ones, or exploring the city, thank you for trusting the platform to connect you to a driver to get you there safely.”

Recognizing that pulling out will disrupt commuters, the transport company offered a sincere apology: “We know this may cause disruption to your routine, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience,” the company said.

To ensure a smooth transition, support channels will stay open through September 23, 2026, giving users time to handle remaining account inquiries.

Closing its chapter in the country, the company shared a final sentiment: “Thank you for welcoming us into your city.”
