The Super Eagles of Nigeria suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON qualifying fixture on Tuesday evening.
The Djurtus dominated proceedings for large spells, displaying passion, determination and attacking intent throughout the encounter.
Guinea-Bissau opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Franculino produced a sublime finish, beating Bruno Onyemaechi before firing the ball into the bottom-left corner.
The hosts continued to apply pressure and gave Nigeria little room to settle into the game, while the Super Eagles struggled to establish cohesion and coordination in midfield.
Nigeria failed to create clear-cut opportunities as Guinea-Bissau controlled the tempo and looked more purposeful in possession.
The Djurtus came close to doubling their advantage before the break, but Beto squandered a glorious opportunity as Guinea-Bissau went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
After the interval, the hosts resumed with the same intensity, pushing forward in search of another goal.
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle responded with a double substitution, introducing Moses Simon and Moses Usor for Taiwo Awoniyi and Ademola Lookman in an attempt to add more attacking threat.
The introduction of Simon and Usor brought some spark to Nigeria’s attack, but the visitors still struggled to produce a decisive response.
Guinea-Bissau eventually doubled their advantage in the 66th minute through Balde, who curled a fine effort into the bottom-right corner beyond the reach of goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.
Nigeria had an opportunity to reduce the deficit when Moses Simon stepped up for a free-kick close to the edge of the box, but his effort struck the wall.
The hosts completed the rout late in the encounter when Djalo found the back of the net to seal an emphatic 3-0 victory in front of their home supporters.
The result moves Guinea-Bissau to the top of the group with six points from two matches, following their victories over Tanzania and Nigeria.
