Osayi Kingdom confirms switch of allegiance to represent Uganda

Former Doma United and Rangers International goalkeeper, Osayi Kingdom, has confirmed his decision to switch allegiance and represent the Uganda national team.

Osayi confirmed the development while speaking with Ribsmedia via WhatsApp conversation on Sunday.

The 22-year-old shot-stopper, who currently plays for Swedish outfit Assyriska FF, expressed his gratitude while acknowledging the work ahead as he pushes for the position of first-choice goalkeeper.

“Thank God. More job needs to be done for the first choice,” Osayi said.

Born on June 3, 2004, to Nigerian parents, Osayi is eligible to represent Uganda through his maternal grandmother, who was born in Kaberamaido, Uganda.

During his time with Doma United, the goalkeeper recorded 15 clean sheets in 29 appearances with the Savannah Tigers.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations, FUFA also confirmed the development on its official X account on Sunday, stating that Osayi will bring youth and height to the Uganda Cranes’ goalkeeping department.

“Meet our new goalkeeper, Kingdom Osayi, who plays for Assyriska FF in Sweden.

“Born on 3 June 2004 to Nigerian parents, his maternal grandmother was born in Kaberamaido, Uganda.

“Standing at 1.98m, he brings youth and height to the Uganda Cranes Goalkeeping Department.”

Osayi is expected to receive his first call-up to the Uganda Cranes squad for the 2027 AFCON qualifer against Libya and upcoming friendly against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Uganda will co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON alongside Tanzania and Kenya.
