Bayelsa Queens set to part ways with coach Whyte Ogbonda after missing out on NWFL title

Bayelsa Queens are ready to part ways with their head coach, Whyte Ogbonda. The club management is preparing to let him go after a full review of the team’s season.

The decision comes after the team threw away its chance to keep the league title. The club lost the Nigeria Women Football League crown to Edo Queens on the final day.

The team needed a big win to stay on top. Instead, they played out a frustrating 0-0 draw against Rivers Angels in the final match of the playoffs.

That draw left the team finishing second in the tournament. The players only managed to get eight points from their five matches, which wasn’t enough.

Management is not happy with how things went down during this 2025/26 campaign. They feel the overall performance on the pitch just wasn’t up to standard.

The club is already moving fast on making a change. The board is expected to issue an official announcement about the coach’s future sometime this week.

It is a tough end for the manager. Coach Ogbonda actually led the team to win its eighth NWFL title just two years ago, but football moves on quickly when a club stops winning.
