Ondo Police arrests woman over alleged attack husband with cutlass

Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a middle-aged woman, Mary Olatunde, for allegedly assaulting her husband and inflicting serious injuries on him during a domestic dispute.

The incident reportedly occurred at the couple’s residence in Ilado, along Igbatoro Road, Akure, the Ondo State capital.

According to reports, Mary allegedly attacked her husband, Julius Olatunde, with a cutlass following an altercation.

The suspect was arrested after neighbours reported the incident to the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Unit of the Ondo State Police Command.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, said the victim sustained severe bodily injuries during the attack.

Jimoh disclosed that following the completion of investigations, the suspect was charged to court and is currently facing prosecution.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling domestic violence and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice regardless of their gender or status.

“The Ondo State Police Command views all forms of domestic violence as a serious threat to the safety, dignity and well-being of individuals and remains committed to ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable regardless of gender, status or relationship with the victim,” Jimoh stated.

He also urged members of the public to promptly report cases of domestic violence, abuse, and other gender-related offences to the nearest police station or the Gender-Based Violence Unit for swift intervention and legal action.
