The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Seriake Dickson, has revealed that the party handed Peter Obi its presidential ticket without demanding a single kobo from him.
Speaking at an NDC stakeholders’ meeting on Thursday, Dickson explained that the party went completely out of its way to accommodate the former candidate. He noted that they even allowed Obi to choose his vice-presidential running mate without any background interference.
With the next general elections on the horizon, the party leader expressed confusion over the ongoing friction with Obi’s followers. He wondered exactly what his supporters, popularly known as the Obidients, still want from him and the NDC leadership.
“We gave Obi the presidential ticket free of charge and allowed him to choose his vice presidential candidate without any interference from the party. What else do people want?” Dickson asked.
He emphasized that the party has always maintained clean hands regarding financial transactions for top positions. He clarified that neither his office nor the national chairman ever sought financial favors during that election cycle.
“I will have no issues giving the presidential nomination to them. And like I said last night, nobody demanded money from them. Not me or the national chairman,” he added.
Moving forward, Dickson urged all factions to bury the hatchet and focus on the bigger picture. He stressed that internal cohesion is the only way the opposition can successfully secure victory at the polls come 2027.
“At this point we should be working together to ensure victory at the polls come 2027, and I believe we can do it,” he said.
