Tension reportedly gripped Benue State on Tuesday after suspected thugs allegedly blocked a major road as the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, arrived in the state.
The incident was disclosed by Obi’s media aide, Esther Umoh, who shared a video of the alleged roadblock on her X handle.
According to Umoh, the incident occurred shortly after Obi and his entourage arrived in Benue State.
“We have just arrived in Benue State, where alleged sponsored thugs have blocked Boko Road by the Air Force Base, attempting to prevent Peter Obi from gaining access into the state,” she wrote.
In another video shared by the aide, some individuals were seen running after vehicles in the convoy, which Umoh alleged was an attempt to attack the entourage.
However, it was not immediately clear who the individuals were or what triggered the incident.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Benue State Government nor the Nigeria Police had publicly responded to the allegation.
Authorities are expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and confirm whether any security breach occurred.
