‎Manchester United suffered an embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Italian side Como 1907 in the UEFA Champions League Matchday 3 at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia tonight, marking one of the worst results in the club’s recent European history.
‎
‎The Red Devils, led by interim manager Michael Carrick, were stunned within two minutes when Como’s Argentine star Nico Paz opened scoring in the 2nd minute to make it 1-0.
‎
‎United failed to recover. Despite dominating possession, they could not create clear chances.
‎
‎In the second half, the floodgates opened.
‎
‎Anastasios Douvikas doubled the lead in the 49th minute with an assist from Paz, before Paz himself scored his second goal of the night in the 57th minute after robbing the ball from Baleba and finishing at the far post to make it 3-0.
‎
‎Como added a fourth goal in the 85th minute to seal a historic victory, their first ever win over Manchester United.
‎
‎Manchester United pulled one back late with a consolation goal in the 89th minute to make it 4-1, but it was too little too late.
‎
‎The defeat leaves Manchester United with two defeats in three Champions League games this season, after a bright start to their European campaign. The club has not won in six games across all competitions.
‎
‎For Como 1907, managed by Cesc Fabregas, this is their biggest night in modern history. The club only returned to Serie A last season and are playing their debut Champions League campaign.
‎
‎Manchester United fielded a weakened side due to injuries, with Senne Lammens in goal, a backline of Dalot, De Ligt, Maguire and Mazraoui, and an attack led by Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
‎
‎Carrick now faces huge pressure ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth at Old Trafford.
