Tension builds as AMVCA prepares to unveil 2026 nominees

The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards will unveil its 2026 nominees on Sunday, March 29, with actor Chimezie Imo hosting the announcement.

“The spotlight is on… and it’s time to get to know your nominees. Watch the #AMVCA12 Nominee Announcement LIVE |March 29 | 7PM WAT on #AfricaMagic channels,” the organisers wrote on their official X account.

Organisers say the 12th edition will feature 32 award categories spanning different aspects of African film and television.

Of these, 18 will be decided by a jury, while 11 categories will be open to public voting, alongside special honours such as Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer awards.

This year also introduces new categories, including Best Indigenous Language – North Africa and Best Indigenous Language – Central Africa, highlighting a broader continental focus.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to hold in Lagos in May 2026.
