Political witch-hunt: Atiku fires back at calls for EFCC corruption investigation

Atiku urges Tinubu, States to make life affordable for Nigerians

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress, ADC in the 2027 elections, has strongly dismissed recent demands for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to probe him over corruption claims.

The former Vice President condemned the push as a blatant political ploy designed to silence opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His reaction follows public statements by former APC National Vice Chairman Ntufam Hilliard Eta, who urged security agencies to immediately prosecute the politician over long-standing allegations.

Responding through his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku argued that state institutions are routinely weaponized whenever an incumbent government feels politically threatened.

“When an incumbent government begins to feel politically threatened, the institutions of state suddenly become intensely interested in its opponents,” Atiku noted in his statement.

He added, “The latest episode is the move to bring former Vice President and ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, under the scrutiny of the EFCC.”

Atiku recalled that the Olusegun Obasanjo administration exhaustively investigated him years ago without finding any actionable evidence to warrant his prosecution.

He highlighted that nearly two decades and multiple changing administrations later, no government has ever found sufficient cause to pursue corruption charges against him.
