Jesse Jagz criticises celebrities promoting betting, gambling

Nigerian singer and rapper Jesse Jagz has criticised celebrities who endorse and promote betting and gambling brands, describing the practice as harmful.

In a recent post on his X account, the music star expressed strong disapproval of celebrity involvement in gambling promotions.

“We suppose to dey stone any artist promoting bets and gambling,” Jagz wrote.

While his comment was figurative, it underscored his opposition to the growing trend of entertainers endorsing betting companies.

Nigeria is one of Africa’s largest betting markets, with reports estimating that more than 60 million people between the ages of 18 and 40 actively participate in sports betting and other forms of gambling.

Celebrity endorsements have been widely cited as a major factor influencing the popularity of gambling, particularly among young people.

Several Nigerian musicians, actors, comedians, skit makers and social media influencers currently have endorsement deals with local and international betting companies.
