The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has officially unveiled Reverend Cornelius Fawenu as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
Fawenu will share the ticket with the party’s standard-bearer, Bolakale Kawu, the Daniyan of Ilorin.
Party Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Adewara, announced the choice in a statement released in Ilorin on Wednesday.
The decision came after wide-ranging consultations with key party leaders across Kwara’s three senatorial districts.
Kawu formally named Fawenu in a letter to the state chairman, praising his character and track record.
In the letter, Kawu wrote: “Rev. Fawenu is a man of proven integrity, humility, compassion and exceptional leadership whose emergence reflects the party’s commitment to presenting a competent, inclusive and people-oriented ticket capable of restoring purposeful governance to Kwara State.”
Fawenu, an indigene of Babaloma in Ifelodun Local Government Area, currently serves as the party’s Kwara South Senatorial Chairman.
The party emphasized that the choice was the result of an inclusive screening process involving stakeholders from the North, Central, and South regions.
The official statement read: “The emergence of Reverend Fawenu followed extensive consultations, deliberations and a rigorous selection process involving the party’s governorship candidate and critical stakeholders from the three senatorial districts of the state.”
A Biochemistry graduate from Ahmadu Bello University, Fawenu is the Presiding Pastor of Oasis of Wisdom Bible Church and a former state secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria.
