Politician and public policy advocate, Funso Doherty, has officially accepted the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC nomination to contest the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.
Doherty made the announcement in a post on his social media platforms on Friday, expressing gratitude to the party for entrusting him with the ticket.
“With profound humility, gratitude, and a clear sense of purpose, I accept our party’s nomination to serve as its candidate for Governor of Lagos State in 2027.
“I am deeply grateful for the confidence our great party has placed in me and for our shared belief that Lagos deserves much better—inclusive leadership that works for everyone.
“The real work begins now. Together, we will build the Lagos that we know is possible. My friends, it’s time – O TI Ya!” he wrote.
Doherty recently defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC ahead of the party’s primary election.
Prior to his defection, he had declared his intention to seek the Lagos governorship ticket under the ADC.
With his emergence as the NDC candidate, Doherty is expected to intensify consultations and mobilization efforts ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Lagos State.
