The Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Muhammad Samaila Mera, has strongly urged the people of his domain to legally acquire weapons to defend their communities from the ongoing, ruthless attacks by bandits.
The monarch emphasized that taking up arms within the confines of the law has become a necessary measure to protect lives and properties.
Mera also charged subjects across his emirate to remain highly vigilant and take proactive, early action against terrorists and various criminal elements who frequently infiltrate local areas.
The traditional ruler made these remarks during a crucial stakeholders’ meeting held at his palace in Argungu, which brought together various grassroots leaders, including district heads, village heads, and ward heads.
Addressing the community leaders, the Emir said: “If you acquire such weapons legally, make sure the bandits are aware that your community possesses the means to defend itself. This alone can serve as a deterrent and discourage attacks.”
“This by itself can act as a warning and stop people from attacking.” He noted that visible community readiness often forces criminal elements to reconsider their targets.
The monarch also invoked religious principles to back his directive, asserting that Islam does not command its adherents to remain powerless or submissive in the face of unprovoked violence.
“It’s not fair for a Muslim to just stand by when criminals harm people, take innocent citizens hostage, and assault our women. Get ready to protect yourselves, your families, and your communities from any kind of attack,” Mera declared, lamenting the current panic by adding, “When bandits come attacking, everyone starts to run, including the village leaders.”
