The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF has officially announced the Super Eagles’ first two qualifying fixtures for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, set to take place later this month.
Nigeria will kick off their campaign against “Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.”
Four days later, the team will travel to Morocco to take on “Guinea-Bissau in their second qualifying match on Sunday, September 27.”
The official Super Eagles X account revealed the schedule on Tuesday via a newly released fixture graphic.
These opening matches place Nigeria in Group L, where they compete alongside Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau, and co-hosts Tanzania.
The 2027 AFCON tournament will be jointly hosted across East Africa by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
Determined to regain their standing on the continent, the Super Eagles enter the qualifiers seeking redemption after missing out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The qualification round features a traditional home-and-away format, with every nation set to contest six group matches.
While standard groups advance their top two finishers, Group L faces a modified qualification pathway due to Tanzania’s presence.
Because Tanzania already holds an automatic host spot, only the single highest-ranked team alongside them in Group L will qualify for the final tournament.
