Desmond Elliot pulls out of Surulere assembly race, cites intimidation

Desmond Elliot, the lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has officially withdrawn from the contest.

The actor-turned-politician announced his decision in a video circulating on social media on Wednesday.

In the video, a visibly frustrated Elliot alleged that his supporters were being blocked and harassed at the voting venue.

“My name is Desmond Elliot,” he said. “In all zones, they have been intimidating and stopping us. I want to officially announce my withdrawal from this particular race. This is my ward. If you go outside, those are my people, and they have not been allowed [to vote]. So, I am officially announcing my withdrawal from this race. Good luck, thank you.”

Elliot, who currently holds the Surulere I seat, was crossing swords for a return ticket under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
