Media personality and actress Toke Makinwa has said she believes women should not get married in their 20s, arguing that many are still discovering themselves during that stage of life.
Speaking on a recent episode of her podcast, Toke Moment, alongside reality TV star Tacha, Makinwa said many women who marry in their 20s later regret making the decision so early.
According to her, women in their 20s are often still learning about themselves and may not yet be equipped to make such a significant lifelong commitment.
“Women have no business getting married in their 20s.
You don’t even know yourself yet.
Those who did are regretting it now.
Even those who are still married, if they are being honest, they will tell you that they shouldn’t have rushed it,” she said.
Tacha also shared her mother’s perspective on marriage, saying:
“My mum says marriage is like an institution.
Those inside want to get out, while those outside can’t wait to get in.”
Makinwa’s comments have sparked conversations on social media about the ideal age for marriage, with opinions divided over whether age or personal readiness should be the deciding factor.
