Tems: Music helps me heal, forgive

Nigerian singer and songwriter Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has revealed that music is more than a passion for her, describing it as a form of therapy that helps her release pain and heal emotionally.

Speaking in a recent interview with EE72 Magazine, the Grammy-winning artiste explained that writing music allows her to process difficult emotions and find a sense of wholeness.

According to Tems, she often feels relieved after putting her emotions into music, making it easier for her to forgive, let go of painful experiences and move forward.

“Writing music helps me release pain and it helps me to heal.

“By the time I am done, everything I felt, it is gone. I can let the whole situation go. I can forgive. I can move on,” she said.

The singer also spoke about remaining unapologetic about her art and identity, stressing that she is not driven by the need to prove herself to others.

Tems noted that she understands what aligns with her purpose and what does not, adding that her focus is on embracing life’s experiences and making the most of every moment.

“I am not trying to prove who I am. I know what is for me and what is not for me.

“I am trying to take everything in and make the best of every single moment,” she added.
