Police arrest two over killing of NYSC member in Benue

Ogun So-Safe Corps apprehend 42-year-old farmer for alleged defilement of minor

Police in Benue State have taken two suspects into custody following the killing of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Mr Benjamin Msughaondo.

The corps member was allegedly attacked by a mob over a false motorcycle theft allegation.

The incident reportedly occurred late Sunday night around the Major settlement area near the Buruku Local Government Secretariat.

Confirming the development in Makurdi, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, Edet Udeme, said the victim was accused of stealing a motorcycle before being beaten to death without any verification.

According to her, preliminary investigations showed the allegation was false, as documents recovered indicated he was the legitimate owner of the motorcycle.

She added that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, while efforts are ongoing to track down another suspect who is currently on the run.

“He was wrongly accused of stealing a motorcycle, and without verifying the claim, he was mobbed to death,” Udeme said, assuring that authorities are intensifying efforts to apprehend other fleeing suspects and ensure justice is served.
