Detectives from the Obantoko Division of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended Kehinde Makinde, popularly known as “Pastor Kenny,” for allegedly defrauding 18 fellowship members of ₦2.5 million.
The suspect reportedly duped his victims under the false premise of securing them slots for a government-sponsored pilgrimage to Jerusalem.
Earlier reports indicate that Makinde also used spiritual deliverance as a cover to manipulate and defraud unsuspecting followers across Ogun, Oyo, and Osun states.
His apprehension came following four months of sustained intelligence gathering and discreet investigations, according to a official statement released on Monday by Police Spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.
Detectives eventually tracked down and arrested Makinde on August 3, 2026, at approximately 4:45 PM in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Police investigations revealed that the self-styled pastor persuaded members of his fellowship in the Saje and Adatan areas to hand over their funds by promising each of them a ₦2 million yield alongside the pilgrimage.
“Preliminary investigation further revealed that the suspect allegedly obtained approximately ₦2.5 million from eighteen fellowship members in Saje, Adatan, under the false pretence of organising a government-sponsored pilgrimage to Jerusalem and promising each member ₦2 million,” Babaseyi stated.
The suspect remains in police custody while law enforcement officers actively pursue lead to identify additional victims and track down his fleeing accomplices.
In a separate operation, operatives from the Owode-Egba Division successfully recovered an abandoned white Toyota Hilux along the Alapako–Ogunmakin Road, which the owner confirmed had been stolen from his residence four days prior.
Meanwhile, detectives also arrested 31-year-old Samuel Adetunji for stealing a commercial tricycle entrusted to him, which was later recovered in Rounder, Abeokuta, with Babaseyi confirming that all suspects will face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations.
