Abass Olalekan, an official of National Youth Service Corps, NYSC in Abeokuta, Ogun State has been apprehended following the death of a female corps member.
The late corps member, Victoria Ariyo serving at Abeokuta South Local Government where Olalekan is the Local Government Inspector, LGI, reportedly died from pregnancy complications.
It was learnt that she had terminated her pregnancy and died from complications that followed the procedure.
It was gathered that Olalekan announced her death verbally and mobilised some corps members to organise her burial with her remains reportedly buried at Kobape Cemetery on Kobape-Sagamu Road in Abeokuta.
Multiple sources claimed that the LGI was involved in a romantic relationship with the deceased, which eventually led to pregnancy, and a termination that led to her death.
A police source confirmed Olalekan’s arrest, saying, “He is in our custody at the command’s headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.”
Meanwhile, when contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, refused to respond to questions on the arrest of the LGI and the alleged involvement.
Babaseyi, however, confirmed that investigations in the death of Victoria Ariyo were ongoing.
“I can confirm that the case of the demise of Victoria Ariyo is under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department,” Babaseyi said in a terse statement.
