Panel finds Asphyxiation caused 37 custody deaths in Niger State

A federal probe into the tragic loss of 37 lives at a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC facility in Niger State has confirmed that all victims died from severe lack of oxygen.

Panel chairman and former DSS Deputy Director-General, Jonathan Kure formally submitted these critical findings to Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo on Tuesday in Abuja.

The detailed report represents a pivotal milestone in uncovering the truth behind the September 17, 2026 tragedy at the NSCDC Command headquarters in Minna.

All 37 victims had been taken into custody shortly before their deaths following targeted security crackdowns on suspected illegal mining operations across the M.I. Wushishi and Lukoto districts.

The minister is expected to review the investigative panel’s complete documentation before announcing accountability measures and operational reforms for the security agency.

RibsMedia promises to bring more details on the development
