The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Kwara State Command, says it handled more than 100 cases involving rape and other gender-related issues between January and June 2026.
Kwara State Commandant, Mr. Abbas Nda-Mohammed, disclosed this while speaking with journalists on Tuesday in Ilorin, describing the feat as a significant milestone in the command’s efforts to combat gender-based violence and protect vulnerable persons.
According to the commandant, the command secured a life imprisonment sentence against a convicted sexual offender during the period under review, reaffirming the NSCDC’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims of sexual and gender-based violence.
He said the command’s Gender Unit recorded 36 cases of domestic violence, with 12 currently undergoing mediation.
Nda-Mohammed also revealed that 19 child custody disputes were handled, with 15 resolved and four still pending.
In addition, the command received 38 cases of child abandonment, of which six have been resolved, while investigations continue to ensure the welfare of the affected children.
The commandant further disclosed that nine abduction cases were reported, noting that four victims have been reunited with their families through the timely intervention of the corps.
He added that eight cases involving rape, sexual assault, and child molestation are currently before competent courts for prosecution.
Nda-Mohammed urged residents to promptly report cases of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual offences, and other forms of gender-based violence to the NSCDC for swift intervention.
He assured the public that the command remains committed to protecting the rights and dignity of women, children, and other vulnerable members of society.
