Transport unions across Kwara State have passed a vote of confidence in Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, praising his administration’s empowerment programmes and people-oriented policies.
The endorsement came during a stakeholders’ engagement with the All Progressives Congress, APC in Ilorin, where the unions also declared support for the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, as the party’s governorship candidate.
The unions represented at the event included the Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria, TOAN, Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria, MOUN, National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, and Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN.
Speaking on behalf of MOUN, Chairman and Irepodun Local Government Chairman, Alhaji AbdulAzeez Tinuola, commended Governor AbdulRazaq for consistently supporting transport workers through empowerment initiatives.
He described his own emergence as a local government chairman as evidence of the governor’s commitment to recognising and uplifting transport union members.
Similarly, NURTW tricycle operators’ chairman, Lawal Kamaldeen, and RTEAN tricycle operators’ chairman, Abdullateef Arigbabuwo, praised the administration for improving members’ welfare through tricycle donations, road infrastructure projects, and social intervention programmes.
Senior Adviser and Counsellor to the Governor, Alhaji Sa’adu Salau, thanked the transport unions for their continued support, describing the vote of confidence as a reflection of the administration’s impact over the past seven years.
APC State Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, also appreciated the unions for their loyalty to the party and urged them to sustain their support ahead of future elections.
He defended the emergence of Danladi as the party’s governorship candidate, insisting that the APC followed the same transparent process used in selecting candidates for other elective positions.
Other dignitaries, including Commissioner for Transportation Hon. Aliu Kora Sabi, Chairman of the Niger River Basin Development Authority Alhaji Abdullateef Gidado Alakwa, Alhaji Abdulrazaq Jiddah, and KWASIP General Manager Dr. Abdulwasiu Tejidini, commended the transport unions for their support and assured them of continued government backing for their businesses.
