Flying Eagles begin WAFU B U-20 title defence with 4-2 win over Ghana

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles kicked off the defence of their WAFU B U-20 Championship title with an impressive 4-2 victory over rivals Ghana’s Black Satellites.

The Flying Eagles made a bright start and deservedly took the lead in the sixth minute through Olayemi Ayinla.

Ghana responded well after the early setback and restored parity in the 23rd minute, with Mohammed Zaidan finishing brilliantly to make it 1-1.

Nigeria regained the advantage on the half-hour mark when Oraro Isaac found the back of the net, before Muiz Adeleke extended the lead five minutes before halftime to give the defending champions a comfortable 3-1 cushion at the break.

The Black Satellites came out stronger in the second half and reduced the deficit through Kelvin Nkrumah, who converted a penalty.

However, Adeleke sealed the victory for Nigeria with his second goal of the match, calmly converting a late penalty to ensure a 4-2 triumph.

The Flying Eagles will now shift their attention to their second group game against Togo on Thursday as they continue their quest to retain the WAFU B U-20 Championship title.
