Nigerian goalkeeper Chijioke Aniagboso played a key role in helping Chornomorets Odesa secure promotion back to the Ukrainian Premier League following a crucial 1-0 victory over Metalist on the final day of the season.
The former Flying Eagles shot-stopper delivered an outstanding performance throughout the campaign, contributing significantly to the club’s successful promotion push.
Aniagboso, who joined Chornomorets Odesa in September 2024 and is the only African goalkeeper currently featuring in the Ukrainian Persha Liga, expressed his delight after the achievement. He joined fans and supporters in celebrating the club’s return to the top flight.
Reflecting on the milestone in a post on his Facebook page, the goalkeeper thanked God for the opportunity to be part of the club’s journey and described the season as an emotional and rewarding experience.
“From going through relegation to fighting hard and helping my team earn promotion back to the Ukrainian Premier League, it has been a journey full of challenges, sacrifices, and unforgettable memories,” Aniagboso wrote.
He also expressed gratitude to the club’s management, coaching crew, teammates, and supporters for their trust and unwavering support throughout the season.
Aniagboso further acknowledged the fans who stood by the team during difficult moments, noting that their encouragement played a vital role in the club’s success.
The goalkeeper was a member of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles squad that represented the country at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina.
Chornomorets Odesa finished the season in second place with 65 points, securing promotion back to the Ukrainian Premier League.
