A father of 11, Lawal Hamisu, has approached Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari in Kaduna, seeking an order compelling his 27-year-old daughter, Fatima Lawal, to get married.
At the hearing on Tuesday, Hamisu, through his counsel, H.B. Debo, told the court that his daughter had completed her Higher National Diploma (HND) and had received attention from several admirers but had yet to present a serious suitor for marriage.
He urged the court to direct her to bring a suitable suitor so that the marriage could be conducted, alleging that her mother had influenced the children against him.
In her response, Fatima told the court that although she had admirers, none had formally proposed marriage, adding that she currently had no serious suitor.
Presiding Judge, Malam Yakubu Abdullahi, described the matter as sensitive because it involved a father and his daughter.
He said he would hold separate discussions with each party to better understand the situation before offering further guidance.
The court adjourned the case until August 3, 2026, for further proceedings.
