Doye Diri Dissolves Bayelsa United Board, Sacks Players After NPFL Relegation

By Michael Odetunde

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has dissolved the board and management of Bayelsa United following the club’s relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The governor also approved the dismissal of all players after the team’s disappointing performance in the 2025/26 season, despite what officials described as substantial financial support from the state government.

The decision is aimed at holding the club accountable for its poor outing and setting the stage for a comprehensive restructuring of the team.

Governor Diri’s directive takes immediate effect, with the state government expected to begin rebuilding the club ahead of its campaign in the Nigeria National League (NNL).

A new management team is expected to be announced in the coming days as efforts intensify to restore the club’s competitiveness.

Bayelsa United was among the four clubs relegated from the NPFL last season, alongside El-Kanemi Warriors, Wikki Tourists, and Remo Stars.
