Kogi Police intercepts vehicle conveying N3.2m Indian Hemp, arrests suspect

The Benue State Police Command has arrested 46 suspects in connection with the attack on the convoy of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiogbu, disclosed this on Wednesday, saying investigations into the incident were ongoing.

Nwadiogbu added that key leaders of the youths allegedly involved in the incident were being trailed by security operatives.

He warned that the command would not tolerate political intolerance or violence in the state as the 2027 general elections approach.

The commissioner said the police would continue to take necessary steps to identify everyone involved in the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the full weight of the law.

The arrests followed the blockade of Obi’s convoy while he was travelling to Yelwata, where he was scheduled to meet and sympathise with victims of the June 2025 attacks.

The incident reportedly occurred a few metres from the airport when Obi’s in convoy encountered a roadblock on the two-lane Makurdi-Gboko federal highway.

The police have since commenced further investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the roles played by the arrested suspects.
